The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration has financial and livelihood assistance for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) whose livelihoods are affected amid the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak, Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) Administrator Bernard Olalia said on Monday.
The Senate Committee on Economic Affairs hearing, chaired by Senator Imee Marcos, the COVID-19 and its impact were discussed.
Olalia mentioned that the travel ban in China is maintained while travel bans to Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan were lifted. OFWs are still sent to South Korea except for the two regions where the epicenter of COVID-19 are. Further, Kuwait and Qatar implemented a temporary suspension in 14 countries including the Philippines.
Olalia bared that hundreds of OFWs are leaving everyday bound for Qatar and Kuwait.
Marcos asked the administrator about their plans on the OFWs affected by the ban to which Olalia responded that financial and livelihood assistance are prepared.
