The Makabayan Bloc on Thursday maintained their claim that the proposed amendments to the Human Security Act (HSA) of 2007 are unconstitutional as it attacks basic human rights.
In a press conference at the House of Representatives, Bayan Muna partylist Rep. Ferdinand Gaite said the bloc believes that the suggested amendments to the HSA violate human civil and political rights.
Meantime, ACT Teachers partylist Rep. France Castro echoed Gaite's thoughts, saying the amendments have a “wholesale attack to basic human rights.”
Castro further explained why the bloc believes the amendments are unconstitutional, citing some provisions in the amendments which allegedly violates the Constitution.
The Bloc also reiterated that they condemn the Senate's release of its version of the anti-terror bill, saying the move was untimely especially nowadays that trumped-up charges and redtagging against administration critics are prevalent.
