Congress ratifies bill requiring GMRC, values education

Congress ratified the bicameral version of the bill which requires students from kindergarten to high school to take classes on good manners and values.

The good manners and right conduct and values education replaced the existing edukasyon sa pagpapakatao subject in the basic education curriculum.

President Rodrigo Duterte is expected to sign the measure to become a law.

Good manners and right conduct will be offered from kindergarten to grade 6 while values education will also be taken from grade 7 to 12.

Values education is an integral part of the Department of Education's basic education curriculum. This includes human, ethical, and moral values.

It also aims to teach students respect for intercultural diversity, gender equity, peace and justice, obedience to the law, and nationalism among others.
