At least 35 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) lost their jobs in Hong Kong as cases of the coronavirus increased in China, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration said Wednesday.
OWWA administrator Hans Cacdac disclosed that of the number, 16 has their contracts terminated by employers who left the Chinese administrative region.
Meanwhile, 12 lost their jobs due to conflicts with employers who were prevented from leaving the house to prevent them from getting infected with the virus.
However, Cacdac assured the job losses were insignicant as there are 220,000 Filipinos in Hong Kong.
He also said there is a law that allows OFWs to find a new employer by presenting a referral.
