2 House chairpersons removed amid alleged House speaker ouster attempt

House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano has initiated the first move to contain attempts to oust him by removing the chairperson of the appropriations committee and the chairman of the House electoral committee.

Congressman Isidro Ungab lost his chairmanship of the appropriations committee by ACT-CIS partylist Congressman Eric Yap, chairman of the House Committee on Games and Amusement.

Yap said he had no prior information about the revamp.

Congressman Joseph Sto. NiƱo Bernos takes over the committee headed by Yap.

Deputy Speaker Crispin Remulla also secured the election of Kabayan partylist Congressman Ron Salo to replace Mindoro Oriental representative Salvador Leachon as chairperson of the House electoral tribunal.

Salo is an ally of Cayetano while Leachon is an ally of Marinduque Congressman Lord Allan Velasco.

Cayetano accused Velasco of working for his ouster ahead of their agreed time to turn over the leadership of the House in October based on their term-sharing agreement brokered by President Rodrigo Duterte.
