PH 'ready' as WHO raises Covid-19 global risk to 'very high'

The Philippine government is ready to step up efforts to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) after the World Health Organization raised the risk assessment of the virus to “very high” at a global level, the Palace said on Sunday.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Disease will act based on WHO recommendations.

Meantime, the country welcomed its inclusion among the nine countries that the WHO recognized for being able to contain the virus after the nations recorded no new cases in the past two weeks.

Among the nations are Sweden, Sri Lanka, Russia, Nepal, Finland, India, Belgium, and Cambodia.

As of Feb. 29, there are more than 85,000 cases of Covid-19 all over the world as death toll reached over 2,900.
