House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano said he is open to any attempt to oust him if this is the real sentiment of the majority of his 299 peers in the lower chamber, even as he insisted that Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco has been plotting to oust him.
In a Facebook post over the weekend, Cayetano said, “I believe most members of Congress see and appreciate the reforms I stand for. If they do, then I will continue to serve as their Speaker. If they don’t, then they can remove me, I will continue to serve as the Representative of Taguig and Pateros. I will continue the lonely fight with whoever will join me.”
Velasco is waiting to replace Cayetano as speaker based on an agreement reached by both leaders before the start of the 18th Congress where the latter will be the Speaker for the first 15 months, while Velasco will assume the post in the remaining 21 months.
