DOTr issues safety protocols amid COVID-19 outbreak


The Department of Transportation (DOTr) issued guidelines on community quarantine and social distancing measures following the President's orders to place the National Capital Region (NCR) on community quarantine in efforts to contain the growing pandemic.

Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade said everyone should be willing to carry personal grievances for the sake of common good.

He stressed that this policies are temporary and the deeper the cooperation, the faster will the nation overcome this crisis of the deadly disease.

During the quarantine period, the policies DOTr will be implemented are: On air travel, there will be no flights in Metro Manila as the flights will be relocated at Sangley Airport in Cavite and Clark International Airport in Pampanga, and International flights will have special airport-to-airport trips in coordiantion with airport authorities.

The rail and land sector will strictly regulate passengers and apply “social distancing”, Philippine National Railways operations from Alabang to Calamba will be suspended, although Point-to-point buses from NAIA to Sangley and Clark international airports will be allowed to operate as scheduled.

In the maritime sector, all crew members of cargo vessels coming from affected ports will be subjected to strict quarantine procedures, passenger traffic in all ports of the metro is banned however ferry services within NCR will continue its operations only if the operators follow Maritime Industry Authorities' 50% reduced capacity.
