Covid-19 death toll climbs to 5 as DOH reports 3 additional fatalities


The coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) death toll in the Philippines has risen to five as three more Filipinos infected with the virus have died, the Department of Health (DOH) reported Thursday night.

The DOH announced that patients no. 5, no. 6, and no. 37 have succumbed to the disease.

Patient no. 6, the wife of patient no. 5, was initially admitted at Cardinal Santos Medical Center and transferred to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine. She died from acute respiratory distress syndrome due to severe pneumonia secondary to Covid-19.

Meanwhile, patient no. 5, a known diabetic and hypertensive who developed an acute kidney injury, died of the same causes.

Patient no. 37, an 88-year-old female from Pasig City, is the third and latest Covid-19 death who died from acute respiratory failure.
