Senate OKs bills renewing franchises of 6 broadcast firms

The Senate on Monday has approved on third and final reading bills seeking to give six broadcast companies another 25 years to operate.

The six broadcast firms whose legislative franchises will be renewed are Broadcast Enterprises and Affiliated Media, Crusaders Broadcasting System, Bicol Broadcasting System, Golden Broadcast Professional, Gold Label Broadcasting System, and First United Broadcasting Corp., now known as the Global Satellite Technology Services.

In a statement on Wednesday, Senator Grace Poe, chair of the Senate public services committee, said Gold Label's franchise is set to expire in May while the rest in July.

The franchises were transmitted to the House of Representatives for their approval of the Senate amendments.
