FDA approves COVID-19 test kits made by UP students

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the test kits created by University of the Philippines (UP) students for the detection of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The FDA issued a statement on Tuesday, saying the test kits – made by UP students funded by the Department of Science and Technology – will provide our laboratories with technical reinforcement to accommodate the growing number of positive cases.

The FDA added that the approval of the test kits supports the situation in the country as Code Red sub-level 1 was raised on Sunday.

President Rodrigo Duterte has declared the COVID-19 outbreak as a "State of Public Health emergency" on Monday following local transmissions of the deadly disease in the country over the weekend.
