The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has ordered Metro Manila mayors, barangays, and the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday to prohibit students from going to crowded places to combat the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).
In a Task Force meeting in Malacañang Monday evening, President Rodrigo Duterte suspended the classes in all levels in Metro Manila until Saturday.
DILG Secretary Eduardo Año said the president has directed Metro Manila mayors, barangays, and the PNP to send home children loitering around crowded areas – such as malls and movie houses – to do their homework given by the Department of Education.
Año asked the cooperation of parents to supervise their children and discipline them from going outside as this defeats the purpose of social distancing which is needed to avoid the COVID-19.
Año added that the DILG and the local government units will strictly enforce home quarantine measures to those suspected of having the virus.
